The design trends change constantly, in fact, in recent years, the Scandinavian style or “Nordic Style” is the most successful.
IKEA was definitely a springboard for this new trend in home decor which introduced in our homes a new and simpler style.
Who has traveled in northern Europe will noticed as in Denmark, Finland and Sweden, everything seems clean, tidy and especially bright.
But what are the elements that distinguish the Nordic style?
Light colors, pastel shades and lots of wood! All combined in a mix of simplicity, functionality and beauty.
The essential starting point for decorating the house with this style is white color, not surprisingly Nordic houses have with white walls and floors. Imagine having to spend all the autumn and winter seasons with few natural light, certainly you won’t paint the walls with dark colors that wouldn’t allow the light to filter inside!
The white color gives light to the space as well as gives a feeling of elegance and relax which allows to play with pastel colors of textile, objects and furniture.
Wood is another key element for both the floors and for the furniture, the most used are the Oak, Walnut, Larch, Ash and Birch. The style is sinuous and the wide open spaces, never crowded, give to the rooms depth and breadth.
The use of geometric pattern is typical of the northern houses, because it is true that white is important but a bit ‘of contrasting color gives to the room vitality.
The natural tones (wood, stone and leather) are always in the used, but another color that is never missing is the green of houseplants.
Last but not least, the curtains! They would be thin and almost impalpable, and if you want to really empathize with the Nordic style you cannot use them indeed!
